Mustang Spotlight: Lucia Martin

We are proud of current MCHS senior Lucia Martin, who attended Georgetown University’s Foreign Policy Academy this summer as part of the Hoya Summer High School Sessions.

Through lectures, simulations, group discussions, embassy visits, and presentations from policymakers and industry leaders, Lucia explored U.S. foreign policy and international relations while experiencing hands-on learning in Washington, D.C.

At MCHS, we love celebrating the incredible things our students are doing while also sharing opportunities that may inspire others to explore new experiences beyond the classroom.

Last week, Freshman Academy students kicked off their program and pathway exploration with Welding and Electrical, giving students an up-close look at the skills, opportunities, and careers connected to each field. They heard from current MCHS students and teachers, learned about course sequences and certification opportunities, participated in hands-on activities, and connected with industry professionals to learn more about real-world careers in each field. And this is just the beginning! Throughout the year, students in the Freshman Academy will continue exploring the many pathways available at MCHS as they begin thinking about the opportunities that best fit their interests, strengths, and future goals.

Congratulations to MCHS senior Sophie Schoot, named the Associated General Contractors of Western Kentucky’s Technical Centers Student of the Week!

Sophie is completing the carpentry program at the Paducah Area Technology Center, where she has stood out for her work ethic, problem-solving skills, and willingness to learn. She also earned first place in a SkillsUSA cabinetmaking and design competition where she designed and constructed her own makeup vanity!

After graduation, Sophie plans to double major in business and construction management, with hopes of managing large construction projects and eventually starting her own business.

Having our principal included in this important community initiative means that McCracken County High School—and most importantly, our students—had a voice in conversations about the future of Paducah and McCracken County.

We are proud to partner with the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce and even prouder that MCHS was invited to be part of this work. Strong schools and strong communities go hand in hand, and opportunities like this help us continue building connections that can open doors for our students—today and long after graduation.
