Permission Form for Prescribed or Over-the-Counter Medication
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are writing to inform you of an important policy update from the Kentucky Department of Education that will affect the administration of over-the-counter (OTC) medications in all school settings.
Effective for the 2025–2026 school year, OTC medications (such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, antacids, cough drops, etc.) may no longer be administered to students at school without BOTH:
1. A written order from a licensed medical practitioner, and
2. Signed parental consent.
This change is part of a statewide effort to ensure student safety and consistency in school health practices.
To comply with this new regulation, McCracken County Schools has made the required medication permission form available on our district website. You can find it under the Student Health Forms section. Please note that this form is not valid until it includes both the healthcare provider’s signature and your signature.
We recommend that families begin discussing this new requirement with their healthcare providers ahead of the 2025–2026 school year, especially during routine check-ups.
If you have any questions, please contact your school nurse or school administrator.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting the health and well-being of our students.
Sincerely,
McCracken County Public Schools
