The Governor’s Scholars Program Statewide Selection Committee reported that the 2026 class was chosen from a highly competitive pool of 1,698 outstanding students from across Kentucky. A total of 1,020 students were selected, representing approximately 60 percent of applicants.

The Governor’s Scholars Program is a prestigious summer residential program for outstanding rising high school seniors in Kentucky. This year’s sessions will be hosted by Centre College in Danville, Morehead State University in Morehead, and Murray State University in Murray.

Selection for the program is highly competitive and mirrors the rigor of college admissions. Students are evaluated on academic achievement, including course rigor, GPA, and standardized test scores, as well as extracurricular involvement, leadership, community service, and work experience. Applicants must also submit teacher and community recommendations, along with an original writing entry.

During the program, students participate in a rigorous and engaging curriculum that includes a focused area of study, general studies courses, and seminars designed to challenge their thinking and expand their perspectives. Scholars also have the opportunity to hear from a wide range of guest speakers and performers representing various fields and disciplines.

The mission of the Governor’s Scholars Program is to enhance Kentucky’s next generation of civic and economic leaders by fostering intellectual curiosity, leadership, and a commitment to service.

McCracken County Public Schools congratulates these outstanding students on their achievement and wishes them continued success as they represent their school and community in this prestigious program.
