We are incredibly proud to share that McCracken County High School has claimed 1st place at this year’s West Kentucky Regional Science Bowl, earning a trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the National Science Bowl Finals from April 30–May 4!
Hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Science Bowl is a fast-paced, buzzer-style academic competition that challenges students’ knowledge in biology, chemistry, Earth & space science, energy, mathematics, and physics. Each year, about 10,000 students nationwide compete at the national level, with more than 350,000 students participating since the event began 35 years ago.
“I am so proud of the kids and their hard work—not just this year, but over the past several years,” added Coach Matthew Shelton. “This competition gives students in our region the chance to showcase their skills in science and engineering.”
The regional competition included schools from across Kentucky and Illinois, with St. Mary High School finishing second and Calloway County High School Team #1 placing third. The first-place team also received $1,200 for their school.
