The 2026 Boys State golf Tournament in Bowling Green wrapped up on Wednesday, with some strong showings from some of the local golfers and teams. As the only local team competing, McCracken County finished tied for 5th place as a squad. Individuals from Marshall, Tilghman, and Carlisle competed amongst Kentucky’s best as well.
In the five-man Mustang squad, it was senior Jack Farmery who shot a team-best 8-over-par 152 over the course of the past two days, landing him tied for 29th in the standings. Evan Hack finished just behind him at 9-over-par 153, Brentley Gregory at 13-over-par 157, Peyton Courtney with a 17-over-par 161, and Cooper Webb rounding out the team at 28-over-par 172.
“This is where you want to finish the year every year,” McCracken coach Chris Gregory said. “They earned the right to be here. We’ve had better rounds of golf than we’ve had in the past two days, but we competed to the best of our abilities, and that’s all you can ask them to do anytime you come out on the course.”
Farmery believed his round wasn’t his best, but was still appreciative of the opportunity to play at the state tournament for his final round of high school golf. He also was appreciative of McCracken for a great four years, saying he enjoyed every bit of his career in a Mustang uniform.
“It was fun. This was my fourth year in a row doing it, so every year of high school. It’s always nice to be up here,” Farmery said. “It’s definitely been shaky the past two years, but overall it’s been fun. It feels weird that it’s my last time, but it was a good season.”
