The First Region will be well represented in the final rounds of the KHSAA Boys State Golf Championship, with McCracken County advancing as a team and four additional area golfers qualifying as individuals Tuesday in the sub-state round in Bardstown.
The Mustangs secured one of three team qualifying spots with a third-place finish, while Marshall County’s Paxton Carter and Gage Norman, Carlisle County’s Knox Kelley and Paducah Tilghman’s Liam Stewart each earned individual berths. The top three teams and the top 15 individuals not on those qualifying teams advanced from the sub-state round.
The McCracken County Mustangs finished third as a team behind Bowling Green and Bethlehem, shooting 4-over-par 292 as a team. Peyton Courtney led the team with a 1-under-par 71 as one of just 10 golfers to shoot under par.
Evan Hack and Jack Farmery followed, both shooting 1-over-par 73, First Region champ Brently Gregory carded a 3-over-par 75 and Cooper Webb shot a 7-over-par 79, not contributing to the team score.
The Mustangs and these four individuals will advance to the final rounds of the KHSAA State Championship next Tuesday and Wednesday at Bowling Green Country Club.
