McCracken County kicked off their volleyball season with a 3-0 clean sweep over district foe Community Christian Academy on Monday night. With the win, recently appointed head coach Izzy Myers earned the first win of her coaching career, a milestone she is glad was accomplished in their opener.
“It’s a relief, but it’s also a good game for us to get going,” Myers said following the match. “I think this was something we’ve been talking about the past couple weeks, so everyone was excited about the first game. That’s a good thing. We were struggling a tad bit at practice, and this really helped speed us up. It was a really good game.”
Coach Myers admitted she had some nerves before her first game of her coaching career. With the pressures that come with being the coach of a team as highly ranked as McCracken, that was to be expected headed into the opener.
“Absolutely,” Coach Myers said when asked if she had jitters before her first game. “It’s something that every game we’ve played in scrimmages I’ve been a little bit nervous, but I tell them all the time, if you’re not nervous, you don’t care about it.”
There is no question the Lady Mustangs have had a chokehold on the region since their inaugural season nearly 15 years ago. Having never lost a match against a region opponent, Myers knows the pressures and standards that come with this program and being at the forefront of it. She says this year’s team is handling that pressure well, and knows the current task at hand.
