McCracken County Public Schools has announced the first induction into its inaugural McCracken County High School Hall of Fame and Hall of Heritage. The 2015 Lady Mustangs softball team made its mark 11 years ago and does so again now by being named the first inductees into the hall.
That 2015 team was just the second softball team under the new McCracken County High School umbrella of schools merged from Lone Oak, Heath and Reidland.
Under the direction of Tony Hayden, the Lady Mustangs went 37-3 and ultimately won the KHSAA Fast Pitch softball state championship.
That season wasn’t a sure thing, however. In the first game of the season, they fell 6-2 to Daviess County and suffered losses two and three within the first 10 games of the season.
From there, it was sheer dominance, winning 30 games straight, including the title game. They would post 15 shutout games throughout the season, including a 6-0 win over Graves County for First Region honors and a 6-0 win over Ashland Blazer in the state semifinals.
