McCracken County senior guard Miles Woodfork has been named the 2026 Paducah Sun All-Purchase Player of the Year. Every year, coaches and media members from around the First Region vote on who they believe stood above the rest, and this year, Woodfork earned their votes.
As the commander of the Mustangs offense this year, Woodfork averaged 24.1 points per game, placing him 15th in the state in that metric. The craftiness to his game is what made him a tall task for anyone having to guard him. He proved he could finish at the rim efficiently and effectively, shooting 65.9% on two-point attempts and 59.7% overall on the year.
Woodfork had multiple 30-point games this season, including 34 in the district championship game against Tilghman. Putting up numbers like this is already difficult to do, but the added fact this was Woodfork’s first year as a Mustang after transferring from Tilghman makes it that much more impressive.
“He works tirelessly at his game, so this is a payoff for all of his hard work,” McCracken head coach Dustin Roberts said. “He came in here and was a really good teammate and shared the basketball. Him being a really talented player that works hard, this was a really nice payoff for him.”
Coach Roberts has seen a lot of stars go by in his four years as a head coach and even more as an assistant, coaching multiple All-Purchase Players of the Year like Jack McCune and Connor Miller, but he claims Woodfork is one of the best he’s had on the offensive side of the ball.
“He’s probably the best pure scorer I’ve ever coached,” Roberts said. “He gets us out in transition, would lead the break, and make all the right decisions. Just being able to have a guy that can score the basketball at the rate that he does just made everybody better on our team.”
Although the Mustangs fell in the region championship, Coach Roberts wants this year’s squad to be remembered for all they accomplished, not just one game at the end of their season.
“The ending was disappointing to lose that game versus Marshall, who’s a really good team, but I don’t want it to go unnoticed what these guys accomplished,” Roberts said. “Going 28-4 and winning a lot of games against state ranked teams, and going undefeated in the regular season against Region 1 teams. There’s a lot to be proud of, even with the disappointing ending to it.”
By earning this award, Woodfork joins a vast list of exceptional talent from around the region, where his name will be etched in the history books forever. Although his time was short at McCracken County, his impact was strong enough to leave a lasting legacy and impact the future Mustangs that are climbing through the ranks right now. For Miles, this award is recognition of his time, energy, and dedication to the game of basketball.
