McCracken County athletes turned in several strong performances at the Class 3A KHSAA Indoor Track & Field State Championships, highlighted by a first-place finish in the boys pole vault.
Senior Dawson Hayden led the way with a winning vault of 14 feet, 6 inches, claiming 1st place and continuing his standout season in the event. Hayden’s mark proved to be the best of the field and set the tone for the Marshals’ efforts.
“Winning a state title my senior year feels great honestly,” Hayden said, who now turns his attention to his outdoor track and field season. “All the work I’ve put in paid off, and my confidence is through the roof. I feel as if the only person that can beat me is myself.”n the girls pole vault, the Lady Mustangs placed two athletes in the top seven. Senior Briley Baird cleared 9-0 to earn 6th place, while fellow senior Emily Archbold finished 7th with a vault of 8-6, giving McCracken valuable depth in the event.
Sophomore Lex Holmes competed in two events on the boys side. He placed 16th in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.58 seconds and added a 13th-place finish in the high jump, clearing 5-8.
On the girls side, sophomore Annaleise Ruzich clocked a 9.53 in the 55-meter hurdles to finish 9th, continuing to gain experience in the sprint hurdles as one of the team’s younger competitors.
With underclassmen gaining valuable meet experience and seniors leading the way, McCracken County continues building momentum with the outdoor season just around the corner.
