McCracken County boys basketball teams defeated Community Christian Academy 91-32 in the first round of the Second District Tournament on Monday night. Defensive pressure and a barrage of baskets inside helped them pull away in the second quarter, and now advance to the district championship game.

CCA was able to hang around for a large portion of the early stages. A pair of threes by sophomore Jonah Anderson kept the score within single digits, but the defensive pressure caused by the Mustangs forced many turnovers leading to transition layups and a 20-10 lead after the first quarter.

The match broke open after the home team scored a whopping 36 points in the second frame, more than CCA’s total in the entire game. Miles Woodfork, who scored 18 points in the first half, netted 10 in the period. That, combined with nine from Aaron Adams as well as six from Carver sparked a 20-2 run, extending their lead to 20 quickly and holding a 56-18 lead at the midpoint.

The sophomore duo of Jonah Anderson and Bradon DeJarnatt, who both average over 22 points per game, continued their theme of doing the heavy lifting for CCA, as the two combined for 28 of the team’s 32. DeJarnatt buried a pair of threes in the second quarter and three on the night as apart of his team-high 15 points, followed by Anderson with a pair of triples and 13 points.

A running clock for the final two periods slowed the scoring, but the intensity from the Warriors and Mustang reserves remained true through the end, where McCracken remained on top 91-32 at the final buzzer.

Woodfork led all scorers with 18, Aaron Adams right behind him for the Mustangs with 15. Paxton Carver rounds out scorers in double figures with 14.

CCA finishes with a regular season record of 15-14, their second consecutive year with a record over .500.

With the win, McCracken clinches a spot in the First Region Tournament and a chance to win their fourth straight Second District Title. They will face the winner of St. Mary and Paducah Tilghman, who square off on Tuesday night at 7:30.
