With the high school basketball season nearing its end, awards have already started to roll in for some of the best girls and boys basketball players in the state of Kentucky. The first to be named are the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches 2025-26 Region Players of the Year.

Locally, Calloway County’s Sayler Lowe was named the KABC First Region Girls Player of the Year, while McCracken County’s Miles Woodfork earned the First Region Boys Player of the Year and in the Second Region, Lyon County’s Bray Kirk was named the Boys Player of the Year.

All recipients across the 16 regions in the state are seniors and with the win of their respective regions, are automatically entered into the running for the 2026 Mr. and Miss Kentucky Basketball awards.

Miles Woodfork has led the McCracken County Mustangs to an undefeated 14-0 record in region play thanks to a 24.2 scoring average and 678 total points on the year. The Mustangs newcomer is shooting 37.5% from behind the arc with 36 made 3-pointers on the season and 76.8% from the foul line where he’s amassed 146 points. Woodfork has also reached a personal milestone this week, joining the ranks of elite scorers in the 2,000-point club.All three of these athletes will look to continue their senior seasons into district and region tournaments with the goal of Rupp Arena when it’s all said and done and maybe, just maybe one of them will be named 2026 Mr. or Miss Kentucky Basketball by the end of it.
