In McCracken County’s 84-45 senior night victory over Calloway, senior Miles Woodfork etched his name in the record books by recording his 2000th career point in his 24-point performance. From start to finish, the Mustangs gained the upper hand and continued to find their way to the cup, ultimately leading to the victory.
“Our senior class is a really good senior class,” head coach dustin Roberts said. “They set the tone every practice. You have very few letdowns in practice. These guys come in here, and that’s really where we win these games, Tuesday and Wednesday practices. It all starts with your seniors leading that group.”
“Super talented guy. He deserves it,” Roberts said about Woodfork. “He works very hard. Obviously we’ve been able to coach against him, and it was very difficult. It’s much easier coaching him than it is against him. He’s a special talent and super fun to watch him offensively for sure.”
The 2000th point came in the third quarter in a complete takeover by Woodfork, who scored 11 straight for the Mustangs after forcing a pair of steals leading to easy layups on the other end.
As for the rest of the game, the Mustangs outscored Calloway 17-4 in the first quarter, and extended their lead to 20 quickly in the second, highlighted a pair of threes by Paxton Carver.
The lead only grew from there, as the Lakers remained cold from behind the arc, shooting 4-22 in the game. The final ended with the home team McCracken on top 84-45.
Woodfork led the 12 scoring Mustangs with 24, with Aaron Adams and Jackson Klope the only other Mustangs in double figures with 10 a piece. The Lakers failed to have a scored eclipse double figures, Acey Strickland leading the way with nine.
“Calloway’s a really good team. They’re well coached and they shoot the ball really well. One of our emphasis tonight was to close out with urgency, with a high hand on the shooters to try and put some pressure on them to speed them up a little bit. I thought for the most mart we did a good job of that, which allowed us to rebound and get out into transition.”
Calloway has one final matchup in the regular season this Thursday, where they return to Jeffrey Gymnasium to face the Caldwell County Tigers. They already know who they will face in the Fourth District Tournament, that being Murray High on Tuesday at Marshall County High School.
