The McCracken County Lady Mustangs hosted Trigg County Friday night as part of an action-packed weekend of basketball in Mustang Madness where they claimed a 63-30 win over Trigg County.
The win marks the Lady Mustangs 10th straight win as they improve to 12-3 on the season.
It was a team effort from start to finish as all Lady Mustangs that saw the floor put points on the board. Maddie Ault and Arri Brison led the scoring efforts with 10 points apiece. The duo would hit a pair of three’s in the second and third quarters, sparking momentum to an already momentous Lady Mustang squad.
A staple to the Scott Sivills program is an in-your-face defense that creates turnovers and translates to fast break layups. The defense was there from the get-go, but the scoring didn’t come as frequently as the opportunities arose.
It wouldn’t be long however before the Lady Mustangs found themselves up 6--0 and before they knew it the first quarter was over and they held a commanding 17-4 lead.
The three’s would start flying in the second quarter as Brison found her two in back-to-back corner buckets and Ella Shelbourne added one of her own. Another 17 points brought McCracken County up to a 34-14 lead over Trigg County as the home team found its scoring mojo.
A five-in, five-out rotation would keep the Lady Mustangs feet fresh throughout the night and keep the scoring opportunities flowing from top to bottom of the bench.
Mason Clements and Maddie Ault combined for 12 points in the third quarter in the form of four buckets from long range for the best scoring quarter of the night. A 54-30 lead heading into the final frame would be the official light at the end of the tunnel towards the Lady Mustangs 10th straight victory.
Alongside the 10-point performances from Ault and Brison, Clements added nine, Ava Hughes, Lezharia Bolen and Abby Casebier each put up six points, Reagan Hill contributed five, Skater Houser and Shelbourne had three each, Janaye Reed and Anna Hammonds had two and Lilly Hamilton would add a free throw in the final quarter.
The Lady Mustangs chances at 11 straight will be put to the test on Monday when they host Lyon County (12-3).
