McCracken County’s basketball programs opened their seasons Tuesday with dominant wins in a doubleheader against Community Christian Academy. The Lady Mustangs won 77-14, and the Mustangs followed with a 101-27 victory. The losses were the second straight for the Warriors and Lady Warriors, who fell to Christian Fellowship the night before.
LADY MUSTANGS 77, LADY WARRIORS 14
The girls game opened the night, and the Lady Mustangs set the tone immediately. The first basket came from LeZharia Bolen, who scored again seconds later off a steal. CCA called a timeout, but it did little to slow McCracken County, which continued forcing turnovers and converting them into points.
The second quarter was more of the same, though CCA’s Jaedin Casey scored on a jumper near the free-throw line for the Lady Warriors’ only points of the period. The Lady Mustangs led 54-3 at halftime.
McCracken County kept rolling out of the break, with baskets from Reagan Hill and Mason Clements. The Lady Mustangs went on a 13-0 run before Casey hit a 3-pointer late in the quarter. Riley added another triple as CCA cut slightly into the deficit, trailing 67-8 entering the fourth.
The Lady Mustangs closed the game with more dominance, while the Lady Warriors’ only fourth-quarter points came from two 3-pointers by Addie Arnett. McCracken County’s reserves contributed late to seal the 77-14 win.
Ava Hughes led the Lady Mustangs with 10 points, while Arnett led CCA with six.
McCracken County travels to Henderson County on Friday. Community Christian hosts Pope County on December 8 in its home opener.
MUSTANGS 101, WARRIORS 27
The boys game followed the same script, with the Mustangs controlling the pace from the start.
Community Christian Academy won the opening tip, but McCracken County’s Miles Woodfork immediately stole the ball and dunked it on the fast break. Jonah Anderson scored moments later, and Woodfork followed with a 3-pointer as the Mustangs opened on a 13-2 run before CCA called timeout.
The break didn’t slow McCracken County, as Aaron Adams threw down a dunk out of the timeout. After building a 21-3 lead, CCA’s Cooper Reed hit a 3-pointer, but Adams answered with an alley-oop dunk assisted by Woodfork. Anderson added another 3 for CCA, but the Mustangs led 41-8 after one.
The second quarter began with back-to-back alley-oop finishes from Adams. A few plays later, McCracken’s Garrett Miller dunked but was assessed a technical foul for hanging on the rim. Less than two minutes into the period, the Mustangs led 58-8. CCA added three free throws and a tough layup from Reed, but McCracken County took a 77-16 lead into halftime.
CCA opened the third quarter with a basket from Bradon DeJarnatt, but the Mustangs maintained control and led 90-21 entering the fourth.
Caden Feldner opened the final quarter with a 3-pointer. CCA added only three more scoring plays, two coming at the free-throw line. McCracken County closed the night with a layup from Brody Short to push the Mustangs over 100 points in the 101-27 win.
Woodfork led the Mustangs with 17 points in his official debut after transferring from Paducah Tilghman last season. DeJarnatt led the Warriors with 10.
