A pair of the First Region’s finest closed out their regular seasons against one another on Tuesday night, as the McCracken County Lady Mustangs played host to the Murray Lady Tigers. Across the 80 minutes of action, heavy pressure from the Lady Mustangs would be offset by an impressive defensive display from Murray, as the two sides had to settle for the 0-0 draw.
From kick-off, the Lady Mustangs and Lady Tigers were as evenly matched as they come, scrapping for every second of possession along the midfield. While Murray would eventually gain a slight edge in possession early on, McCracken would see more quality opportunities on goal, though nothing would get across the line quite yet.
As the half rolled along though, the Lady Mustangs spent more and more time in Murray’s half, keeping the pressure on the Lady Tiger defense. However, a number of key stops for Murray’s back line would keep things tied at zero as time continues to tick on the half. A few more chances at either end would go by the wayside before the break, with the score holding at 0-0 heading into halftime.
Staying on the front foot to start the second half, the Lady Mustangs nearly broke the deadlock early on, with a perfectly threaded pass putting Maddy Ledgerwood through on goal. However, an impressive save from Murray’s Della Podrovitz would again deny McCracken, keeping things tied.
Down the stretch, Podrovitz’ big stop began to look even more important by the second, as neither side had found the go-ahead goal as the game approached it’s final minutes. With both teams frantic to sneak away with the win, both defenses were called upon to turn away late chances, each time successfully. Finally, in the dying seconds, one last shot hit squarely to Podrovitz would be collected, as time expired on the 0-0 draw.
For both the Lady Tigers and Lady Mustangs, they’ll each hope for better results in the first round of their respective district tournaments next week. In the first district tournament, the Lady Mustangs will meet Paducah Tilghman, while the Lady Tigers are set to face Graves County in the second district tournament.
