Landon Hunt and the McCracken County Mustangs have done it again. For the second year in a row, Hunt has won the First Region Golf Championship, while his team has won the same title for the third year in a row.

Hunt tallied a 2-under-par 70 at Murray Country Club on Tuesday afternoon to seal the deal, while the team carded a combined score of 293 for the team title.

“I’m just so grateful. I’ve been looking forward to this tournament all year, and I’m hoping to finish strong,” Hunt said.

And Landon says his golf game is in a good place to finish strong.

“Obviously, there’s highs and lows of every round, but I think putting everything together at the same time and I’ll be okay.”

McCracken County has been nothing short of dominant all season long, as the region championship marks the 13th team win of the season.

“Surviving and advancing is the name of the game this time of year,” McCracken County head coach Chris Gregory said. “They would probably say they played ‘OK’ golf, but I thought they held it together pretty well. Not knowing what the weather was going to do and they really did well controlling their emotions and giving me the best number that they could give me when they got done and that’s all I ask them to do every time they go out.”

Joining Hunt to help get the Mustangs to the top was Evan Hack and Dallas Vinson each shooting 2-over-par 74, Tanner Kight shot a 3-over-75 and Jack Farmery shot a 77.

Not far behind the Mustangs was the Marshall County Marshals who finished second as a team to advance to sub-state. A score of 303 put the Marshals in second with Brooks Lamb leading the charge with a 2-over-par 74. Paxton Carter and Gage Norman followed, each shooting 76, while Nolan Hurst and Ryan Stokes both shot 77.

The sub-state round will take place next Tuesday, September 30 at Calvert City Golf & Country Club.
