Results are final for the First Region Class 3A track and field championships after a late night at McCracken County High School Thursday night. Marshall County, McCracken County and Graves County all represented the local area well, with the Marshall County boys team claiming first place and the Mustangs finishing second. In girls action, McCracken County finished second and Marshall finished fourth.

With their 132 team points, the Marshals collected six first-place finishes and five second-place finishes, all earning automatic bids in the state meet next month.

Those first-place finishes include Sam Morgan in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.87; Hayden Gray in the 300 meter dash with a time of 42.51; Koby Yates ran the 3200 meter in a time of 9:23.00; Deegan Croley won the discus and shot put with throws of 153-05 and 57-06.00 respectively and the the 4x800 meter relay team took first with a time of 8:22.99.

Those second-place finishes some from Sam Morgan in the 200 meter dash at 22.47; Owen Futrell in the 800 meter at 2:00.02 and the remainder of the relay events. The 4x100 was ran in 43.52, the 4x200 was a 1:30.29 and the 4x400 was a 3:31.72.

For the Mustangs finishing runners-up, they saw five first-place finishes and two second-place finishes. Winning their events was James Barragan in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.73 and the 400 meter with a time of 49.10; the relay teams claimed the rest of the teams top finishes. The 4x100 was ran in 41.91, the 4x200 was a 1:28.46 and the 4x400 was ran in a 3:28.87.

The second-place finishes and automatic state qualifiers consisted of Lex Holmes in the 110 hurdles at 16.83 seconds and Dawson Hayden in the long jump with a distance of 20-11.25.

In girls action, the Lady Mustangs claimed five top finishes and four runner-up finishes. Those top finishes came from Annaleise Ruzich in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.74 the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 48:13; Janaye Reed took the discus the distance of 94-11 and the shot put a throw of 36-03.00 and the 4x200 meter relay team ran a 1:48.34 for a top spot.

In second from McCracken came Briley Baird in the pole vault with a height of 8-06.00; Sarah Kate Houser made a distance of 32-04.00 in the triple jump, while the 4x100 meter relay team ran a 51-.46 and the 4x400 was finished in a 4:23.66.

From Marshall County, the Lady Marshals saw a pair of first-place finishes and four second-place finishes. Addison Lyles claimed one of those top finishes in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:37.56, while Mia McGregor reached a distance of 32-05.50 in the triple jump.

The runner-up spots went to Audrey Grace Brown in the discus with a throw of 92-07; Anna Marie Peffer reached a height of 8-06.00 in the pole vault; Lily Hays launched the shot put 30-10.00 and the 4x800 meter relay team ran a 10:36.29 to round out the automatic bids.

While Graves County didn’t land any first or second place finishes, there are still several athletes who landed in the top five across multiple events who could still get a spot in the state meet. After the top two finishes per event, the following 10 athletes across the state in the 3A class will be pulled together for a shot at a state title. McCracken County and Marshall County could also be sending more athletes to represent their schools.
