The Paducah-McCracken Retired Teachers Association (PMCRTA) recently recognized Jackson Manning, a 5th-grade student at Concord Elementary School, as the County Winner in the AARP/KRTA Kentucky Grandparent of the Year Essay Contest. His winning essay has advanced to the District Division, representing McCracken County.
During the county award ceremony, Jackson read his essay aloud. He presented a medal to his grandfather, Mr. Calvin Manning of Cottage Grove, TN, in a meaningful moment that highlighted their special bond.
The AARP/KRTA Kentucky Grandparent of the Year Essay Contest encourages students across the Commonwealth to reflect on and celebrate the important role grandparents and grandparent-like figures play in their lives.
Jackson was guided in his writing by his teacher, Mrs. Cristie Wooten, who supported him throughout his writing journey. Jackson's mother shared how proud she was of his accomplishment and expressed gratitude to the contest sponsors for providing this opportunity.
