Chris Gossum

McCracken County Public Schools is pleased to announce the hiring of Chris Gossum as the district’s next Director of Transportation, effective November 1, 2025. Gossum will succeed Matt Thompson, who is retiring after years of dedicated service to the district.

With over 15 years of experience in education and school leadership, Gossum brings a wealth of operational knowledge, leadership expertise, and a deep commitment to student safety and service. He most recently served as Principal of Carlisle County Elementary School, where he led a high-performing school with a focus on student achievement, staff collaboration, and daily operational excellence.

A graduate of Murray State University, Gossum earned his Rank I in K–12 Principal and Administration, a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Technology, and a Bachelor of Science in Middle School Math and Science. He also holds an Associate of Science from West Kentucky Community and Technical College, where he studied through the UK College of Engineering program.

“Chris brings a rare combination of leadership experience, attention to detail, and care for students that makes him a perfect fit for this critical role. We are thrilled to have him join the McCracken County Schools family, and I know he will serve our students and community well,” said Josh Hunt, McCracken County Schools Superintendent.

Gossum shared his excitement about joining the team, saying, “I’m humbled and honored to serve in this new role. In transportation, you get to greet the students first and hear about how their day went at the end, which is a very rewarding experience. I know many great things are going on in the transportation department, and I’m excited to pick up the torch and carry on with these. I look forward to working with the amazing staff, students, and families across McCracken County.”

As Director of Transportation, Gossum will oversee all facets of student transportation, including bus routing, driver training, safety protocols, and fleet maintenance.
