McCracken County High School senior, Madelyn Faughn was recently awarded the Gold Medal Congressional Award for her completion of 400 hours of voluntary public service, 200 hours of personal development, 200 hours of physical fitness, and completion of an exploration trip. Congress established the Congressional Award in 1979 to recognize the achievements of American youth. It is the highest honor bestowed upon a youth civilian through the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. The Congressional Award is unique, as it provides a structure for young Americans to learn the value of service, personal development, fitness, and citizenship through character-forming experiences that shape tomorrow’s leaders and our country’s future.
