Hunt named new McCracken County Superintendent

During a special board meeting Monday morning, the McCracken County Public Schools Board of Education selected Josh Hunt as the district’s next leader.

Hunt is currently an assistant superintendent in Christian County Public Schools, he succeeds Superintendent Steve Carter who will retire on June 30.

Hunt started his career in education 22 years ago. He began as an algebra teacher at both the middle and high school levels. From 2009-2020 he served as an assistant principal in the Christian County School district, with the last five years of school-level leadership as the Assistant Principal at Christian County High School. Currently, he is in his third year as the Assistant Superintendent of Operations. In this role, he directs and supervises the development, implementation, and coordination of all phases of district operations. In addition, he assists and supports the district’s secondary schools. Hunt also serves as the School Safety Coordinator for Christian County Public Schools. In 2017, he was recognized as Administrator of the Year by the Kentucky Association of School Resource Officers.

“I am extremely excited and humbled to be selected as the next Superintendent of McCracken County Schools.  I want to thank Board Chairman Steve Shelby, all the MCPS School Board members, and the Superintendent Selection Committee for giving me this opportunity.

I also want to thank Superintendent Steve Carter for his support.  He has done a great job as leader of this district over the last four years.  I greatly appreciate him welcoming me and expressing his desire to work together over the next two months during the transition period to find ways we can continue to build on all the great things that are going on here,” said Hunt.

Hunt holds a bachelor’s degree from Brescia University and a master’s and education specialist degrees from Murray State University. He and his wife Miranda have been married for 19 years. They have two children, Landon, 15, and Harper, 11.

“My family and I are looking forward to the move to McCracken County this summer and becoming a part of such a wonderful school system and surrounding community.”

Hunt was chosen from a highly qualified field following a rigorous selection process that included screening by a selection committee and an interview with board members.
