On Tuesday night, the McCracken County Lady Mustangs returned to Mercy Health Field to host the visiting Calloway County Lady Lakers. The Lady Mustangs defeated the Lakers with a 7-0 finish, remaining perfect with a 13-0-2 win-loss-draw record.
McCracken County struck first courtesy of sophomore Makenzie Burgett on a direct kick, the first successful goal in the contest came at the 19-minute mark. Once scoring began for the Mustangs, the momentum favored McCracken County throughout the remainder of the first half.
Six minutes after Burgett’s soaring goal, the Lady Mustangs added another to the scoreboard with a goal by sophomore Kiera Tynes with 13 minutes left in the half. Moments later, fellow sophomore Audrey Estes made it 3-0 for McCracken County.
At halftime, McCracken County had shot 13 to Calloway County’s two shots. Despite being held to two shots in the first half, Calloway County remained aggressive against the Mustangs on defense, only allowing three goals for McCracken County.
The Lady Mustangs continued the offensive onslaught in the second half of the contest as junior Ashlyn Blackwell added to the score with an assist from Maddy Ledgerwood, allowing McCracken County to take a 4-0 lead over Calloway County with 32 minutes left. Moments later, Katelyn Heider moved the score to 5-0 before Estes extended the lead to 6-0 over Calloway County with an assist from Ashlyn Blackwell.
Savannah McDowell scored the final goal in the contest, allowing McCracken County to take a 7-0 lead over the Lady Lakers with less than 10 minutes left in the second half.
McCracken County took 30 shots in the contest, while Calloway County took three. Addison Smith, who leads the state in complete game shutouts, collected her 10th shutout this season.
Calloway County’s goalkeeper Grace Barnes deflected 23 shots in the loss.
The Lady Mustangs will travel to Madisonville-North Hopkins on Thursday night. McCracken County will face the Lady Maroons for the first time since 2021. Calloway County will host a district contest with Marshall County on Thursday night.
