On Thursday night, the McCracken County Lady Mustangs honored its senior members of the volleyball program ahead of the contest against crosstown rival Paducah Tilghman at Strawberry Hills Pharmacy Arena. With a 25-5, 25-16, 25-8 three-set sweep, McCracken County remains perfect in First Region play under the guidance of first-year head coach Chancie Coleman.
With emotions running high, Olivia Griffith, Aubrey Hill, Isabella Miller, Mabrey Perdue, and Jaci Swain were honored for their academic and athletic accomplishments as the senior group of Lady Mustangs.
During the first set, it was all McCracken County with pure teamwork. Despite attempts from the Paducah Tilghman Lady Blue Tornado, the Mustangs held PTHS to only five points in the set. Paducah Tilghman kept McCracken County’s defense on their toes throughout. However, the Lady Mustangs were able to use their strengths on the court to push ahead and take the set 25-5.
Paducah Tilghman kept it close in the second set before a timeout, which the Blue Tornado trailed 9-14. However, the Lady Mustangs, with the assistance of serves by Swain and Miller, kept McCracken County ahead to dominate and take a comfortable lead over Paducah Tilghman. Although Tilghman added two more points to the scoreboard, McCracken County came out with the 25-16 victory.
The Mustangs completed the sweep in the third set over their district opponent, holding Paducah Tilghman to eight points. Along with the senior members of the Mustangs, teammates such as sophomore Reagan Hill, junior Olivia Tapscott, and sophomore Taylor Dugan added to McCracken County’s 25-8 win in the third set.
McCracken County moves to 11-3 this season, leading the First Region in RPI standings. Paducah Tilghman sits at 4-13 in the region. The Lady Mustangs will compete against Somerset Christian School during the Kentucky Challenge on Saturday. The Blue Tornado returns to Otis Dining Gymnasium on Monday where they will host the Graves County Lady Eagles.
