Matt Thompson Has Been Appointed Interim Director Of Transportation

Matt Thompson has been appointed interim Director of Transportation for McCracken County Public Schools (MCPS).

In the interim position, Thompson will oversee a wide range of responsibilities critical to the smooth functioning of the transportation department. The department is responsible for monitoring the bus routing system, coordinating and staffing bus routes throughout the district, and maintaining the bus fleet. Their goal is the safety of student's daily commute to and from school.

Thompson, whose appointment will take effect December 1, will replace John Tucker who has been selected as the new Maintenance Supervisor for the district. Tucker has served as the District Coordinator of Transportation since July 2022.

For the last 10 years, Thompson has been the assistant principal at Lone Oak Middle School (LOMS). He joined MCPS in July 2010 as an assistant principal at Hendron-Lone Oak Elementary before transferring to LOMS in 2013. Before MCPS, Thompson worked as a teacher in the Livingston County School District, Marshall County School District, and the Paducah Independent School District, respectively.

“I have the utmost respect for the McCracken County School District.  It is an honor to serve this community, and although I will be serving in a different capacity, it will be with the same commitment and passion, said Thompson.

Thompson has maintained a CDL with the ability to drive a bus since beginning his career in education 26 years ago.

“I have a strong appreciation for the work that takes place in all aspects of the transportation department,” he said.

Thompson received his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and Rank 1 from Murray State University.
