MY NAME IS JILL VESSELS AND I AM SO EXCITED TO BEGIN BY 16TH YEAR AS LIBRARIAN AT HEATH MIDDLE SCHOOL. I EARNED A BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN ENGLISH AND SECONDARY EDUCATION FROM UNION UNIVERSITY IN JACKSON, TN IN DEC. 1996.  I BEGAN MY TEACHING CAREER IN AUGUST OF 1997 AT HEATH HIGH SCHOOL TEACHING SOPHOMORE ENGLISH AND WORLD STUDIES. WHILE TEACHING, I COMPLETED 33 HOURS AT MURRAY STATE UNIVERSITY AND EARNED AN ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATION IN THE FIELD OF LIBRARY SCIENCE. AFTER 5 YEARS OF TEACHING ENGLISH, I BEGAN MY NEW CAREER AS THE LIBRARY MEDIA SPECIALIST AT HEATH MIDDLE SCHOOL. MY GOAL IS TO INSTILL IN OUR STUDENTS AN APPRECIATION FOR READING AND TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS ON ALL LEVELS.
I AM HAPPILY MARRIED TO JUSTIN AND WE ARE THE EXTRA-PROUD PARENTS OF DAVIS, WHO IS 16 AND A SOPHOMORE AT MCHS, AND GREY WHO IS 10 AND IN THE 4TH GRADE AT CONCORD ELEMENTARY. IN MY SPARE TIME, I ENJOY READING, GOING TO THE GYM, DECORATING, AND MOVIES. I AM THRILLED TO BE A PART OF THE STAFF AT HEATH MIDDLE SCHOOL.

2019-2020 Accelerated Reader Policies  
 ** Accelerated Reader testing may only be taken during reading class.  Students may not take tests in any other class or during AA.
 
** Accelerated Reader testing may not be done before or after school hours.  This includes after-school clubs or tutoring.
 
** Each student will be given an AR goal that he/she will be required to meet by the end of each nine week grading period.  Goals will be set by the student's reading teacher.
 
** Weekly computer schedule for reading teachers:
Monday- Buchanan
Tuesday- Buchanan
Wednesday- Bostrom
Thursday- White
Friday- Ross
If students as, they may take tests on these days in class with their reading teacher, or when their reading teacher allows them to come to the library.
 
** AR points will be due at the end of each nine week grading period.  The deadline will be established by each reading teacher.  No exceptions.
 
** A "Reader of the Month" award will be chosen each month per grade level selected by the reading teachers and Mrs. Vessels.
 
** The "Top Ten Readers at HMS" will be displayed at the end of every grading period in the lobby to celebrate students' reading achievements.
 
** We will also celebrate reading at HMS by implementing a new AR point club in our school.  Points will be accumulated every nine week grading period and names will be displayed in the hallway.

** Students will be rewarded by using the point club categories at the end of each nine weeks.  As students move into higher point club catergories, the rewards will be more substantial.
