Good As G.O.L.D. Program

Here at HMS, we are always looking for ways to help motivate our students and encourage positive behaviors within our building.  Our Good As G.O.L.D. behavior program is one that we use to reward good attendance, good grades, and positive behavior each nine weeks. The first nine weeks ended last Friday, October 14 and report cards will go home on Friday of this week.

Next week students that qualify for the Good As G.O.L.D. reward will be taking a field trip to A-Maize-ing Farms in Mayfield.  A-Maize-ing Farms has a corn maze and several inflatables for students to enjoy.  The students will leave the school around 9:00am and arrive at A-Maize-ing Farms around 9:45am.  They will have around two and a half hours to play on inflatables, find their way through the corn maze, and eat lunch.  Students will then load buses between 12:30 and 12:45pm and return to school.

The cost for the maze and the inflatables is covered by the school. Students have the option to order a sack lunch from the cafeteria or they can choose to take their own lunch. There will be concessions available at A-Maize-ing Farms, but students will need to bring their own money if they want to purchase concessions.

In order to qualify for Good As G.O.L.D. rewards at the end of each nine weeks, students must meet the following criteria:

No Unexcused Absences
According to the student code of conduct, when a student is absent from school, it is the parent/legal guardian’s responsibility to call the school by 10:00am to inform the attendance secretary of the reason for the absence.  If there is no call, the absence is marked as unexcused.  The parent/legal guardian may also send a written excuse or doctor’s note with the student when he or she returns.  Once the student returns, the unexcused absence must be rectified within 24 hours.  If there is no call in or note brought in within 24 hours of the student’s return, then it is marked as unexcused and we can not change it after the 24 hour period.

No D’s or F’s
Students can not have any D’s or F’s on their nine weeks report card.

90 or more Good As G.O.L.D. points
Students start off each nine weeks with 100 Good As G.O.L.D. points.  If a student receives a written referral for misbehavior, points are deducted from their Good As G.O.L.D. point totals.  Behavior infractions are assigned different point values based on the severity of the misbehavior.  Minor infractions range from 5 to 10 points and major infractions range from 15 to 100 points.  In our Good As G.O.L.D. program, the first 10 points are considered warnings and there are no consequences assigned with the referrals.  Once a student drops below 90 points, there are consequences for each additional referral.  Consequences can range from lunch detention, in-school detention, alternative school, suspension, and expulsion.  Point totals reset at the end of each nine weeks, so students start off each nine weeks with 100 points.

Students have to be enrolled for more than 4.5 weeks during the nine weeks to be eligible for the reward

Grades will be posted today and we be notifying students during lunch if they qualify for the trips next week. Students that do not qualify for rewards will remain at school and follow a modified schedule.

At the beginning of the year, parents had an option to opt out of school field trips.  If you did not opt out, then your student already has permission to attend.  If for some reason your student qualifies for the trip and you want to opt out of the opportunity, please print out the attached form, sign it, and have your student turn it in to the office.

The dates for the field trip for each grade are as follows:

6th Grade - Wednesday, October 26, 2022

7th Grade - Thursday, October 27, 2022

8th Grade - Friday, October 28, 2022
