Stay Mentally #HealthyAtHome
It’s 100 percent human to feel stressed, sad, confused, scared, or any number of ways during this time. Luckily there are plenty of resources to help you and your family cope. Here are just a few tools for staying mentally #healthyathome:
Talk to a licensed, professional counselor with LiveHealth Online.
*FREE for MCPS staff with district-provided health insurance
One of the best things you can do if you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed is to talk to someone. LiveHealth Online provides easy, virtual access to licensed, professional counselors, and it’s free for Kentucky Employees’ Health Plan (KEHP) members. You can sign up online at the link above, or call 1-888-548-3432 between 7 am and 11 pm to schedule an appointment. Be sure to have your insurance card handy — you’ll need your KEHP member ID to get LiveHealth services for free.
Text with a trained Crisis Counselor with the 24/7 Crisis Text Line.
Don’t want to wait for an appointment? Can’t get a full 50 minutes to yourself to video-chat with a counselor, but still need to talk? Crisis Text Line provides free, 24/7 support via text message. Text HOME to 741741 to connect with a trained Crisis Counselor.
Check in on your friends and family with Heroes Helping Heroes.
Though designed with healthcare workers in mind, this check-in method can help any one of us check on those we care about. The check-in questionnaire and additional resources
were loosely inspired by the U.S. Army’s “battle buddy” system: (1) pick a buddy (2) run the check-in with each other at least once a week.
Reconnect with your loved ones with the Gottman Card Decks App.
Based on more than four decades of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the Gottman Card Decks app offers helpful questions, statements and ideas for improving your relationships. Most decks are intended for couples, but others can be adapted for friends or family (for example, the “Open-Ended Questions” and “I Feel…” decks).
Try out meditation and mindful exercise with Headspace or The Honest Guys.
The Honest Guys have nearly 100 guided meditations — all free, always — to help you relax, sleep and recharge. Headspace also offers hundreds of guided meditations including the “Weathering the Storm” series, which is free for everyone right now. They’re offering full access to all their meditations to any healthcare worker or school staff — just use your work email address to sign up.
