Board approves changes to high school grading scale

Board members approved changes to the McCracken County High School grading scale Thursday night that will take effect immediately, affecting grades from the current nine weeks, as well as the first nine weeks, retroactively. The amended grading scale is as follows:

Director of Secondary Instruction Melanie Jarvis explained to board members that the change is in response to confusion over the old +/- grading scale expressed by counselors and parents. Removing the +/- from the grading scale and GPA calculations will make for a clearer, more seamless grading system, she said.

 

Board approves first reading of 2019-20 school calendar

*NO ACTION WAS TAKEN- THE SECOND READING WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE DECEMBER BOARD MEETING AND VOTED ON AT THAT TIME.

Board members approved the first reading of the 2019-20 school calendar, which Board Member Chris Taylor pointed out includes two full weeks for Christmas/New Years, as well as the following:

=      August 5- 1/2 Opening Day; 1/2 Registration 

=      August 6- Fixed Professional Development

=      August 7- Fixed Professional Development

=      August 9- First Day for Students

=      November 27- Parent/Teacher Conference/No School (Parent/Teacher Conference may be scheduled prior to this date.)

=      January 2- Flexible Professional Development

=      January 3- Flexible Professional Development

=      May 21- Last Day for Students

=      May 22- Closing Day

Holidays include:

=      Labor Day Holiday- September 2, 2019

=      Thanksgiving Holiday- November 28, 2019

=      Christmas Holiday- December 25, 2019

=      New Year’s Holiday- January 1, 2020

=      Potential Makeup Weather Days: March 13, May 22, May 26, May 27, May 28, May 29, June 1, June 2, June 3

=      General Election- November 5, 2019

=      Primary Election- May 19, 2020

=      Memorial Day- May 25, 2020

For 187 total days:

=      176 Teaching Days
