The McCracken County High School Academic Team won the 2018 District Governor's Cup Championship on Saturday, January 27th. This is the 4th year in a row that the Mustangs have won the overall championship.
Contributions to the 60-point total for the day came from the Quick Recall and Future Problem Solving teams as well as individuals who took written assessment tests.
In Math Written Assessment, seniors, Drew Schofield and David Dodd earned 1st and 3rd place respectively, while sophomore, Alec Ramos earned 4th place. McCracken swept the Science Written Assessment test with seniors Ethan Brown and Drew Schofield earning 1st and 2nd place respectively, while junior, Katelyn Woodard clinched 3rd place. With only two points separating the top three places, the Mustangs also swept the Social Studies category. David Dodd earned 1st place with a score of 34. Sophomore Noah Ellis earned 2nd place with a score of 33 and 8 tiebreakers, while sophomore Grant Eyer earned 3rd place with a score of 33 and 7 tiebreakers. In Language Arts, sophomore, Sydney Woodard earned 4th place, and Sean Sieczka earned 5th place. Arts & Humanities rounded out the Written Assessment tests. Sean Sieczka placed 2nd and Sydney Woodard placed 3rd on those tests.
McCracken's Quick Recall and Future Problem Solving (FPS) Teams both earned first place medals, which secured the overall District Championship for the Mustangs. Quick Recall medalists include seniors, Drew Schofield (captain), David Dodd, Ethan Brown, Sean Sieczka; sophomores, Noah Ellis, Sydney Woodard, Ella McBee, and Alec Ramos. FPS medalists include sophomores, Noah Ellis and Annissa Roberts, freshman, Hannah Hatton, and junior, Katelyn Woodard.
The Quick Recall and FPS teams as well as the medal winners in Written Assessment have advanced to the Regional Competition, which will be held at Calloway County High School on February 12 & 17.
