Twenty-five McCracken County High School Level 2 and 3 German students participated in the 2018 National German Exam sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG). Eleven students received recognition and five of those students earned a medal and special recognition on the AATG Presidential Honor Roll. Gold Medal, Level 2: Elliott Straub for placing in the 90th percentile. Elliott's achievement earned him the status to apply for a Study Award Trip for a three week stay in Germany. Silver Medal, Level 2: Isabel Salchli; Bronze Medal, Level 2: James Choat and Trusdin Hildreth; Bronze Medal, Level 3: Josh Baumgardner; Achievement Awards: Level 2 James Nelson, Cordelia Ramirez, and Molly Yates. Level 3: Daniel Breidenbach, Garrett McLaughlin, and Pamelia Goodwin.
Over 20,000 students participated in the exam this year. The National German Exam, now in its 58th year, rewards students through an extensive prize program and provide a means of comparing students in all regions of the US. Teresa Wallace, German teacher at McCracken County High School, said, “The achievement of these students is a testament to our program and the work ethic and level of dedication of our students.”
