MCHS Theatre Department presents "Peter/Wendy" by Jeremy Bloom. In this lyrical, atmospheric interpretation of Peter Pan, the author strips the familiar story down to its emotional essence. iLove The Arts when “all you need is faith, trust and a little bit of pixie dust!”

In this low-tech, inventive adaptation that pays homage to the darker themes of J. M. Barrie's original, Peter lures Wendy away from her nursery to the magical world of Neverland, where she joins his adventures with Tinker Bell, Tiger Lily, and the menacing Captain Hook. Peter/Wendy will mesmerize audiences of all ages.

Show dates are Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 7:00 pm; Friday, November 2, 2018 at 7:00 pm; Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 2:00 pm; and Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 7:00 pm. All performances will be held at C-Plant Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students/children and may be purchased at the door. The box office opens one hour prior to showtime, and seating is first come, first served.

Senior Cameron Ezell plays Peter and says he chose to audition for this show because he had this hunger for performing and this show has more than fulfilled that need.

“This cast is one whole unit; more than a family. We are completely together 100% of the time,” Ezell told me. “This has been one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. Portraying the character of Peter Pan has been so much fun - tapping into my youthful desire and remembering times in my childhood and things that make me happy. Drawing from my childhood energy has helped to make my performance believable.”

Wendy is being played by Senior Martha McHaney who says she’s absolutely thrilled and honored to be portraying such a timeless character.

“This show is completely different than any one I’ve been in before; it takes a beloved, classic tale and gives it an exciting, modern twist,” McHaney added. “It has quickly become my favorite. I think I love it so much because it is such a strong ensemble piece. It is truly takes a team to make this play function, and we have just that. This cast works so well together to create a magical escape. Peter/Wendy is a show for all ages; it reminds us all to stay imaginative and hopeful. You’ll be missing out if you don’t come to see this performance!”

Auditions were held the second week of school in August, and they have been rehearsing three days a week every week since then.

Director of Theater Mary Bowden told me that this piece was selected for several reasons.

“One, it is unlike anything we have done before and would give my students the chance to perform in new and exciting ways, while portraying timeless characters,” Bowden told me. “I have a deep love for children's theatre, so this show taps into that.”

“I also selected this play because the script is easy to cut down and make shorter, which is something that I needed for this year's Fall Play because I wanted to take it to competition,” Bowden added. “We traveled to the Kentucky Theatre Association West Regional Competition with this show on October 20th and won First Place! We also received a judge’s award for ‘Outstanding Ensemble’, which means so much because the cast works so hard as a team. We will travel to the KTA State Competition the weekend of November 16th and we could not be more proud!”
