MCHS Student Named State Star in Agribusiness
Wayd Wood of Paducah was named the State Star in Agribusiness at a special ceremony as part of the 88th State FFA Convention in Lexington. The Star in Agribuiness is the highest honor Kentucky FFA can award to a member. The award is based on the student’s work with their Supervised Agricultural Experience Program, FFA involvement, and community service. In addition to an application detailing his four years in FFA, Wayd completed an interview in front of a panel of agricultural leaders from across the state.

Wayd is the son of Michael and Stephanie Wood. He is a member of the McCracken County FFA chapter where his advisors are Michael Wood, Robert Polivick, Zach Hobbs, and Brittany Forgey. For his SAE, Wayd partnered with his brothers to start a Farm to Plate-Value added operation known as of Wood Brothers Sausage. With 70% ownership, Wayd controls all interest and management decisions. His operation has grown tremendously and he currently cares for 38 hogs that will be slaughtered at 450 pounds. Wyad’s KY Proud Product has been marketed in 6 different states and is currently served to campers at the KY FFA Leadership Training Center. As a member of the McCracken County FFA Chapter, Wyad has served as chapter sentinel and vice-president. He is the reigning state winner in both the forage production placement and swine entrepreneurship proficiency areas.

Kentucky FFA is an organization of over 14,500 middle and high school students enrolled in Agricultural Education courses. The organization currently has 152 chapters in 116 counties. Nationally, FFA has over 629,000 members in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
