HES Student Wins Dream Out Loud Challenge

The families of eight Kentucky students have won $1,000 college savings accounts with the Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust (KESPT) after participating in the 2017 KESPT Dream Out Loud Challenge. Each winner’s school will also receive $500. KESPT is Kentucky’s official 529 college savings plan.

The Dream Out Loud Challenge invited students from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade to submit an original poem, drawing, video or essay answering the question, “How will I change the world after college?” More than 1,100 children from across the state participated.

“Dream Out Loud encourages Kentucky students to imagine how a college education will help them pursue successful careers,” said David Lawhorn, KESPT program manager. “It also encourages family conversations about saving for college, which is important to consider while children are young and there’s more time to save.”

Children who entered the contest shared their dreams to change the world as doctors, musicians, artists, teachers and more. The 2017 Dream Out Loud winners are:
• Ella Bales, Kindergarten, Hodgenville Elementary School, Hodgenville, Ky.
• Dacy Freeman, Grade 2, Walton-Verona Elementary School, Independence, Ky.
• Drake Lane, Kindergarten, Stanford Elementary School, Stanford, Ky.
• Amaya Lawniczak, Grade 2, McDonald Elementary School, Fort Knox, Ky.
• Allison Lennon, Grade 6, Seton Catholic School, Lexington, Ky.
• Nicholas Lockett, Grade 3, Slaughter Elementary School, Louisville, Ky.
• Aaron Munoz, Grade 3, Heath Elementary School, West Paducah, Ky.
• Anna Nimmo, Grade 6, Boyd County Middle School, Ashland, Ky.

A panel of Kentucky business executives, writers and education professionals served as judges. Winning submissions will be displayed at
