Four McCracken County High School Students Named Semifinalists in the 2018 National Merit® Scholarship Program
McCracken County Public Schools is proud to announce that four seniors have been named semifinalists in the 2018 National Merit scholarship competition. David Dodd, Drew Schofield, Sean Sieczka, and Ethan Brown will continue to compete for $32 million in National Merit Scholarships to be awarded in spring 2018.

David Dodd is president of the Future Business Leaders of America, a member of the Academic Team, Beta Club, National Honor Society, and SkillsUSA. Dodd earned a composite score of 36 on the ACT. He is the son of Becky and David Dodd.

Drew Schofield is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, Beta Club, Academic Team, Physics Club, Student Government Association, president/founder of the Ping-Pong Club, and a 2017 Governor’s Scholar Alumnus. He is the son of Janice and Bart Schofield.

Sean Sieczka is a SkillsUSA state officer, president of the World Language Club, member of the young Democrats, Academic Team, and Beta Club. He is the son of Wayna Manypenny.

Ethan Brown is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, Y-Club, Beta Club, Academic Team, Student Government Association and team captain for the Science Bowl. He is currently attending the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science at Western Kentucky University. He is the son of Shea and Beau Brown.

More than 1.5 million students nationwide entered the Merit Program as juniors by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. High scorers were designated Semifinalists, representing less than1 percent of all U.S. high school seniors, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corp. In total, just over 16,000 academically talented seniors qualified nationwide.

National Merit Semifinalists will advance to the Finalist level upon completion of additional requirements. They must maintain an outstanding academic record throughout their senior year, be endorsed and recommended by their principal, submit SAT scores that confirm their earlier qualifying test, and complete a scholarship application detailing their leadership and community activities.
