I am super excited about starting my first year at Lone Oak Intermediate School! Like many of you, I have a ton of questions about how things work at LOI. So I thought I would share what I have learned in order to ease your transition.

Q: When is the earliest I can drop my child off at Lone Oak Intermediate?

A: If you are dropping your student off at school, the doors open at 6:55 in the morning. ALL DROP OFFS ARE IN THE BACK. Morning assembly starts at 7:20. If you happen to arrive after 7:20, sign your student in the office.

Q: Should I pack my student’s lunch every day?

A: Absolutely not! Every student at Lone Oak Intermediate School receives a 100% free breakfast and lunch provided to them each day. Dads everywhere can rejoice that we don’t have to worry about getting up early to attempt to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!

Q: Will my student have the same teacher all day long?

A: Nope! Each student rotates between three (or four depending on the team) teachers. This allows students and teachers to focus on a single curriculum area. They will also participate in rotation classes of Art, Music, and Physical Education throughout the week.

Q: How will I know what is going on at LOI and more specifically in my child’s classrooms?

A: Great question! We take great strides to keep you informed of the happenings at LOI. Mr. M will send out regular newsletters via email, you will receive periodic one calls and texts through McCracken County’s one call system, and your child’s teachers will use ClassDojo to keep you updated on their performance on a daily basis. On top of that, our teachers are in the process of creating team websites that will serve as a one stop shop for you to explore what you child is learning at LOI!

Q: Are there clubs at LOI?

A: Your child can participate in a variety of school sponsored clubs that meet after school. You’ll receive more information once school starts! Understand all clubs have limited spaces and club sponsors are teacher volunteers. We also provide shuttle services home so you never have to miss an event.

I will be back later this summer with more FAQs to help all of you out, and in the mean time if there are any questions that you have please let us know! Enjoy the rest of your summer and I can’t wait to meet you all in August!

-Mr. Thomas
